PDF Pony
145 browser-based PDF tools — merge, split, compress, convert, sign, redact, build forms, generate invoices, and run print-production preflight checks — all processed locally with zero file uploads.
P DF Pony is a free, privacy-first PDF toolkit with 145 specialized tools organized across eight categories: page organization, format conversion, compression and optimization, text and content editing, interactive forms, digital signatures with full PKI support, security and redaction, and print production. Every operation — from merging documents to generating self-signed X.509 certificates for cryptographic PDF signatures — runs entirely in the browser. Files never leave the device, and the application works offline after initial load. The site is available in five languages with fully localized URLs, backed by a 359-term PDF glossary and over 45 educational articles. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, no watermarks, and no file size tricks — just the tools. The hosting cost is negligible because the browser does all the heavy lifting.
What I did
- Built 145 client-side PDF tools spanning eight categories — including niche professional capabilities like Bates numbering for legal discovery, CMYK simulation and ink coverage estimation for print production, a camera-to-PDF scanner with automatic image enhancement, an invoice generator with four templates and 12+ currencies, and a bank statement scanner
- Implemented a complete in-browser PKI workflow for digital signatures — client-side keypair generation, self-signed certificate creation, PKCS#8 and PKCS#12 key import/export, cryptographic signature application and verification, visible signature appearances, hash-based proof of integrity, and document locking after signing
- Built in-browser OCR for three tools — image-to-PDF, OCR-to-text extraction, and making scanned PDFs searchable — using Tesseract.js running entirely client-side
- Engineered all 145 tools to process files locally in browser memory with zero server uploads — a claim users can verify themselves by inspecting their browser's Network tab during any operation
- Built a visual PDF comparison tool with color-coded difference highlighting — green for additions, red for deletions — with page-by-page navigation and overlay comparison with adjustable opacity
- Designed the application as a progressive web app with offline support, drag-and-drop file input, live preview before download, and batch processing across multiple PDFs
- Internationalized the full application into five languages — English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and German — with localized URLs for every tool, not just translated UI text
- Published a 359-term PDF glossary covering 24 categories of PDF internals — from font technology and color spaces to compression algorithms and digital signature standards — alongside 45+ educational blog articles
